《天火》由原著《石龙坝》改编而来，讲述的是，1908年滇越铁路修到昆明，法国殖民主义者准备在昆明修建水电站，中国地方官员柳呈光和爱国人士左玉轩、沈仲达等人与殖民主义者展开斗争，历经艰难，终于建成中国第一座水电站，大长了中国人的志气。。讲述了中学语文教师盖琨有真才实学，也自命不凡。一直觉得自己在学校里没有得到重用，怀才不遇。职称评定时他跳级申报却被学校驳回，即丢了面子有没得到一点实际好处，尤其被家里的市侩老婆折磨的苦不堪言。家里经济拮据，又顾全面子不愿从家教的学生身上多收费用，于是盖琨和妻子的矛盾不断发生。。Set in a small town in West Texas, four boyhood friends who made a solemn promise to leave town together immediately after high school graduation must now "put up or shut up."
